The Society's roots in the Northwich area date back to 1916. In these early days the Society presented popular light opera and performances were given in the old Northwich Brine Baths. This was very much the formula up to the war years, when Operatics were suspended for the duration.

In 1949 the Northwich Music Society came into being and presented its shows in the old Pavilion Theatre in Northwich and, subsequently, at Hartford Secondary Modern School.

1954 saw the birth of the Winnington Amateur Operatic Society who staged their musicals at ICI's Crescent Hall.

It was in 1960 that these two organisations saw the benefits of amalgamation and in that year became the Mid-Cheshire Amateur Operatic Society. With a new Society came a new venue, as 1960 also saw the opening of the Northwich Victory Memorial Hall. The Society has presented its shows there continuously over the intervening period and has enjoyed considerable acclaim.

In 1968 we took the bold step of purchasing our own headquarters in Oakwood Lane, Barnton, which was used as our rehearsal centre and latterly to present our junior section shows. Our rehearsal HQ has now been transformed into our own Oakwood Lane Theatre.

In a world largely dominated by T.V. and Videos, the Mid-Cheshires continue to offer an alternative, high-quality, live source of entertainment for their public, as well as an enjoyable and rewarding pastime for those who become involved in its activities.

The Junior Section was formed following the Sociey's production of "Annie" in 1985. All the Junior productions have been performed at Oakwood Lane with the exception of "Bugsy Malone" in 1995, which was performed at Northwich Memorial Hall.
